Fannett-Metal Scores Road Victory over Northern Bedford – THE SPORTS PAGE
Fannett-Metal (4-1) traveled to Northern Bedford on Monday evening for an ICC contest. Early in the game the Tigers struggled to make the routine plays and found themselves trailing 5-0 after two innings of play. In the 3rd inning the Tigers scored four runs, the big blow was a bases loaded double by Hunter Hill to pull the Tigers within one. The Panthers came back to score two more in the bottom of the inning to lead 7-4.
Tigers starter Wyatt Appleby sat the Panthers down in order in the 4th and 5th innings allowing the Tigers to chip away at the lead. In the 4th inning, Drew Goshorn scored on an RBI single by Luke Coffman. In the 5th inning, Alex Umbrell unleashed a double to the gap to tie the game at 7-7.
In the 6th inning the Tigers exploded for seven runs on eight straight hits including three doubles. “Our bats finally came alive tonight and we hit like we are capable of,” said Fannett metal coach Paul Coffman. Sharar and Jake Coffman had 2 RBI doubles in the inning. The Panthers would score a run in the 6th and 7th innings but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers closed out the 14-9 victory.
Wyatt Appleby started and pitched 5.2 innings. He had 8 K’s, 1BB and gave up 4 hits. He threw 73 strikes today. “Wyatt’s line would have been lights out if we had played clean defense behind him,” Coffman said. Colton Friese pitched the final 1.1 innings to close out the win. He had 3K’s.
Offensively, Landon Arnold and Hunter Hill had 3 hits each. Hill had 4 RBI and a pair of doubles. Appleby, Rylin Sharar, Alex Umbrell and Jake Coffman all had doubles. Luke Coffman and Colton Friese each had a pair of RBI’s. Every Tigers hitter in the lineup had a hit today.
