Man charged with manslaughter months after crash that killed woman in Gilbert

A 25-year-old man was arrested on a reckless manslaughter charge Friday in connection with a July 17 crash in Gilbert that killed 59-year-old Pauline Gray, police said. Andy Felix was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office jail on a $150,000 bond after investigators said he ran a red light and struck Gray’s SUV at Cooper Road and Merrill Avenue.

Felix was taken into custody after investigators said he ran a red light and struck Gray’s SUV while traveling north on Cooper Road, according to the Gilbert Police Department. Police said He was found and arrested after leaving a job site in Queen Creek, officials said.

Felix was driving a pickup truck hauling a trailer and was accused of speeding between 59 and 65 mph at the time of the collision.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. on July 17 at Cooper Road and Merrill Avenue. The collision left a pickup truck flipped and an SUV heavily damaged, and an unresponsive woman was trapped inside one of the vehicles, according to a FOX 10 report from the day of the crash. Firefighters pulled Gray from the car, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was not hurt.

Gray was driving an SUV westbound and preparing to turn left onto Cooper Road, police said. She was traveling on a green signal at the time of the crash, according to the department.

Investigators said they noticed possible signs of impairment at the scene and conducted a subsequent DUI investigation, which revealed alleged signs and symptoms of impairment. Felix’s bloodwork was submitted for forensic testing, and police said they waited to file criminal charges until the lab results were received. The impairment findings were part of the basis for the manslaughter charge, officials said.

Felix was arrested Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, on a grand jury warrant after detectives completed their investigation, according to the Gilbert Police Department. He was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office jail and is being held on a $150,000 bond. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office provided the booking photo of Felix.

The case was announced in an Oct. 26, 2026 news release from the Gilbert Police Department, which also issued a written statement on the crash.

“Our deepest condolences are with the families, friends, and loved ones of Pauline Gray, as they continue to grieve this tragic loss,” the department said.

The reckless manslaughter charge carries potential prison time in Arizona, where the offense is a Class 2 felony. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will handle the prosecution of the case.

Felix is scheduled to appear in court to face the charge, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Records from the sheriff’s office list the arrest date as Oct. 23, 2026, and the bond amount at $150,000.

The investigation into the crash spanned more than three months, from the July 17 collision to the grand jury warrant issued in October. Gilbert police said the delay in filing charges was tied to the forensic testing of Felix’s bloodwork, which was submitted to a laboratory for analysis after investigators observed signs of possible impairment at the scene.

Gray was described by police as a resident of the Gilbert area, though officials did not release additional biographical details. The department said it offered condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones in the aftermath of the crash.

The intersection of Cooper Road and Merrill Avenue, where the collision occurred, is a residential and commercial corridor in the southeastern portion of Gilbert. The crash shut down the intersection for several hours as investigators documented the scene and firefighters worked to free Gray from the damaged vehicle, according to the FOX 10 report.

Felix’s arrest marks the latest development in a case that began with the July morning crash and continued through the police department’s investigation, the submission of evidence for forensic testing, and the grand jury’s decision to issue a warrant. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will determine the next steps in the criminal proceedings as Felix remains in custody on the $150,000 bond.

The charge of reckless manslaughter in Arizona applies when a person causes the death of another through reckless conduct, a legal standard that involves a conscious disregard of a substantial and unjustifiable risk. Court records will track the case as it moves through the Maricopa County court system.
