City of Phoenix: Phoenix hosts the migratory monarch butterfly

September 24, 2021 10:30 a.m.

Right now, these creatures are making their way through Phoenix. September is also the perfect time to think about what native plants to place on your patio, balcony or garden to create vital habitat resources for this important species of pollinator.

The western monarch butterfly population has declined by 99% in the past 25 years, largely due to habitat loss and pesticide use.

Consider planting native milkweed and native nectar plants to aid the monarch butterfly.
