Gilbert police fatally shoot knife-wielding man in East Valley neighborhood near Lindsay and Guadalupe roads; department says no officers injured in confrontation

The location was identified as the 900 block of East San Remo Avenue, a residential area in the East Valley.

Officer Calissa Wilkerson, a spokesperson for the Gilbert Police Department, said the caller expressed concern for the safety of her family and the responding officers, indicating she believed her son would be uncooperative.

Upon arrival, the first officer encountered the man, who reportedly ran toward the officer while holding a knife. According to Officer Wilkerson, the officer issued multiple verbal commands for the man to stop, but the man refused to comply and continued advancing. At that point, the officer discharged his weapon, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. Police confirmed that a knife was recovered at the scene.

The man was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced dead later that morning, according to police reports. Gilbert Police Department officials emphasized that no officers were injured during the confrontation. Sgt.
