Forecast discussion:

Well, ozone did not quite reach the forecast exceedance. West-northwest winds provided better ventilation and some high clouds to keep ozone levels down. We will see similar conditions today in terms of west-northwest winds and temperatures approaching 115 degrees. As a reminder, the National Meteorological Service has issued an excessive heat warning that will apply from now until 8pm on Friday. When you are outdoors, stay hydrated and seek shade whenever possible.

As we approach the weekend, our weather history will change slightly. The wind will turn south, and we’ll see our daily highs approach closer to the 110-degree mark (unfortunately not much cooler than what we’ve seen so far). The real change will take place in the first half of the next week when there is a chance of precipitation. This will be from our monsoon current bringing in moisture from the south again. We will keep an eye on the rain / thunderstorm chances as we get closer next week.

As for air quality, there appear to be westerly winds in the afternoon that could raise ozone levels slightly. We’re sticking to moderate ozone levels today, but they’re falling quickly as the south wind comes in for the rest of the week. It is forecast that PM10 (dust) will end up in the good AQI range along with PM2.5 throughout the period.

Happy Thursday!
