Death at the the. Chains Area

PAGE, AZ: At approximately 12:28 p.m. on May 14, 2018, the Page Police Department informed Glen Canyon Communications Center of an unconscious man in the water in the Chains Day Use Area near Page, AZ in Glen National Canyon Recreation Area. Witnesses said the man jumped off a cliff into the water about 75 feet below him in his spare time. The deceased was identified as Apaulo Talashoma, an 18-year-old male. His residences were reported to be temporary and included Mesa, Tuba City, and Page, Arizona.

The Page Police Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Department, and the National Park Service (NPS) Glen Canyon National Park Rangers responded. Shortly after the initial call, the responding authorities were informed that the victim was being transported to the Wahweap boat ramp by private ship. At around 12:43 p.m., the NPS Rangers and the Page Fire Department met with the incoming ship on which the Page Fire Department pronounced the victim dead. The victim was taken to the NPS Wahweap Ranger Station, where it was received by the responding Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s office in Flagstaff, AZ. Supporting agencies include the Page Police Department, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Department, the Page Fire Department, and the NPS Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

The incident is being investigated by the Page Police Department, NPS, and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

The National Park Service, Page Police Department, and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office offer their condolences to the family. No further information is currently available.

Individuals recreational at or around Lake Powell are advised to jump or dive off cliffs, ledges, or man-made structures (excluding ships) 15 feet or more above the surface of the water.
