The Phoenix Run takes place on Saturday
MERIDIAN, miss. (WTOK) – On Saturday there will be a big obstacle course race in Bonita Lakes Park.
The first ‘Phoenix Run’ in Meridian starts its first run at 8am. The last run takes place at 11 a.m. and a children’s race follows.
“We have a huge economic impact on the community and that is our goal,” said Julie Wolff, race director. 94% of our registered attendees are 50 miles or more from Meridian, so there is plenty of hotel room, lots of people in the community and some money to spend. “
All of the money raised through the race will go to More Hearts than Scars. This is a not for profit organization that helps adaptive athletes. Ms. Wheelchair America will be a guest at the event.
“So you should come out because it’s going to be a great time. You will be able to see people overcome things they never thought they could,” Wolff said. “And what we’re going to bring to Meridian is tourism.”
There will be more Phoenix events in Meridian this year, including a triathlon in August and a second race in October.
