PHOENIX – As part of Earth Day, Google recently unveiled a video feature based on nearly four decades of satellite imagery to show how climate change has affected the planet.

Three Arizona cities and landmarks were among the dozen featured from around the world as part of the Google Earth project.

Phoenix, Chandler, and Lake Mead on the Arizona and Nevada border were all lit up in time-lapses that began in 1984.

Mayors across Arizona gathered on Thursday to highlight how climate change has affected the planet.

Earth Day has been recognized worldwide on April 22nd since 1970.

“On Earth Day, it is important that we take the time to reflect on the climate action we have taken and to re-invest in the projects and investments we need to advance this very important work,” said Kate Gallego, Mayor of Phoenix, in a press release.

“I take pride in working with mayors across the state to ensure we take meaningful action to protect our planet for generations to come.”
