Pedestrian killed after being hit by a car in Phoenix; Driver attested

Phoenix police said they had arrested a driver believed to have run over a pedestrian and killed a 56-year-old man on Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to the accident with a pedestrian near 43rd and Northern Avenues shortly after 2 p.m., Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Anna Justus said.

The pedestrian, who was identified as Alberto Anthony Urbina on Sunday, was pronounced dead at the scene, Jupiter said.

Police learned that 21-year-old Sebastian Garcia-Castillo was driving a vehicle north at high speed on 43rd Avenue when he met Urbina, who was on a zebra crossing near Butler Drive, Jupiter said.

It was believed that speed and discomfort were factors behind the crash, Jupiter said.

According to Justus, Garcia-Castillo stayed at the scene. He was finally arrested and charged with manslaughter, said Jupiter.
